We are excited to have as our Keynote Speaker Dr. Sandee Crowther, President of Phi Delta Kappa International. Before becoming President of PDK International, Sandee was Executive Director of Planning and Program Development with the Lawrence (Kansas) Public Schools and was president of the National Staff Development Council (1996-97).

The Center for Educational Effectiveness used the same methodology to select the 2009 winners as CEE used to determine the 2007 and 2008 Schools of Distinction.

This conference celebrates the decade long work of Region B’s chapters and Chapter Member Liaisons. It is a celebration of the four year process of chartering and developing the first state chapter in Phi Delta Kappa's 104 years. This Regional Conference is an opportunity to bring together PDK leaders and Kappans across Region B with the leaders and members within the newly formed Regiona A of Phi Delta Kappa.
Great Teacher Awards are an opportunity to recognize the work, commitment, and contributions of distinguished and innovative individuals, schools, school districts, and university faculty and programs in Washington State.
Distinguished Leadership and Service Awards will be presented to leaders and educational innovators in Washington State, retiring state chapter officers, PDK‑WA Kappan journal author and Editorial Board Members, and PDK’s Emerging Leaders.
The new Washington State Chapter #1599 was chartered in 2005 when 13 chapters merged. Future plans include creation of professional learning communities or the reactivation of chapters in each area of the state during the 2010 and 2011 Action Years.

This session is designed for chapter leaders and members. You will interact with PDK International staff and engage in a job-alike sharing and training. In preparation for this session, please submit questions relative to your role in chapter leadership. Questions about PDK’s new initiatives and organizational changes will be addressed during the session, and the newest chapter officer guides will be available for this leadership workshop.

Education Reform – New Ways to View School Improvement
The luncheon will feature an outstanding chapter project that uses a clearly defined methodology to determine the highest “improving” schools in math and reading, over the previous five years, in the state of Washington. This analysis is conducted annually by the Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) and was used to identify the 104 schools recognized this school year as PDK‑WA and CEE Great Schools for 2009 (identified as Schools of Distinction by the state in 2007 and 2008).Learn about plans for continuing this project and recognizing PDKWA/CEE Schools of Distinction in the fall of 2010.
