Symposium - Creating Safe and Effective Learning Communities

When: April 21, 2007

PHI DELTA KAPPA SMALL LEARNING COMMUNITIES SYMPOSIUM

Phi Delta Kappa - Washington State and Olympia Chapters

Dear Washington State Educators:

The newly chartered Washington State Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa invites you to attend the April 21st "Safe and Successful Schools Symposium" and "Awards Luncheon" at Clover Park High School. The symposium will feature workshops on:

State of the Art Instruction is a rigorous, purposeful, and relevant to students. Its propositions are inherent in National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and are incorporated in the Clover Park School District’s Principles of Learning. It results in powerful classrooms where students are learning at high levels while applying their knowledge and skills to complex issues and new situations. Teacher and administrator collaboration and learning through State of the Art Instruction have supported significant growth in student achievement and relationship building.

Clover Park High School was a struggling comprehensive secondary school five years ago. In November 2005, it was honored by Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond and the School Design Network at Stanford University as “one of four nationally recognized high schools that have created high achieving small learning communities where students and faculty pursue rigor, relevance, and relationships.”

I encourage educators in Western Washington and throughout our state to join the Olympia Kappans and current and future state chapter members as we learn new strategies and processes for implementing “small learning communities” and learn more about the day-to-day implementation of State of the Art Instruction.
